The government of Abu Dhabi on Tuesday requested real estate expo Cityscape Abu Dhabi be extended until Friday following an opening day that saw organisers struggling to cope with the huge number of visitors - people were still queuing up to get in at 5:00 pm.
In what organisers described as an "unprecedented decision", the government asked for the three-day expo to stay open for an extra day.
Attendance records for the first day were smashed, with an estimated 120% increase upon last year’s event, according to organisers.
“We received a formal request from the Abu Dhabi government that they would like us to extend the event by one more day," Mark Goodchild, Cityscape Abu Dhabi project manager, said in a statement.
"This is unprecedented for Cityscape, but considering the massive interest on the first day, it is hardly surprising."
Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nayhan on Tuesday opened the second edition of Cityscape Abu Dhabi, touring the expo with Khaldoon Mubarak, CEO of Abu Dhabi-owned investment vehicle Mubadala.
