Preparations begin for Camel Festival

Preparations for the ‘Mazayin Dhafra Camel Festival’ have started, it was announced on February 6 by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH).

The festival is slated to be held at the Madinat Zayed, a city in the Western Province of Abu Dhabi emirate, on April 2-5. It will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Both Asayel (pedigreed) and Majahim (dark-skinned) camels will take part in the event, which will include a camel beauty contest, among other shows and activities.

The camels, which are required to be of pure-bred origin and free of any contagious diseases or serious defects, will be divided into age groups for the competitions.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Buti Al Hamed, Ruler’s representative of the Western Province and head of the festival committee, explained that the event aimed at preserving the traditional Arab life.

“Camel has always been a companion to the Arab. It still plays a vital part in our lives, as so many people continue to attend camel races and enjoy what is perceived to be a part of our heritage,” said Shaikh Mohammed bin Buti. Source
